WWE reportedly hold an internal belief that they will land STARDOM’s Giulia by the end of the year.
The current NJPW Strong Women’s Champion Giulia has been linked with a move to WWE for several months, with rumours of her edit only growing stronger following the recent Stardom Gate 2024 event. During the show, Giulia announced that she was disbanding Donna Del Mondo, the group she helped to found, in order to compete on her own again, leaving many thinking that the 29-year-old may be preparing for life outside of Japan.
To provide an update on the situation, Dave Meltzer has written in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that Giulia’s current contract is set to expire in March, with there even being an internal belief within WWE that she will have joined the company before the end of 2024.
“Her contract with Stardom expires in March. As of right now she’s not leaving in March but those in WWE are of the belief as are others that she will be in WWE before the end of 2024.”
-Dave Meltzer
Meltzer would touch on WWE’s recent partnership with All Japan Pro Wrestling, which saw current NXT superstar Charlie Dempsey compete inside an AJPW ring. Here, he discussed how WWE are looking for a women’s wrestling company to partner up with, and how their possible capture of Giulia could change the political dynamic should it come to be.
“WWE looking for a women’s promotional ally and then signing the person who could be the top star of the group they would be looking at working with makes the political situation a little different from what it was when they first approached her”
-Dave Meltzer
Whether Giulia does end up leaving STARDOM to join WWE remains to be seen, but, given that she recently lost the Artist of Stardom Championships to members of the God’s Eye faction, it certainly seems like a much more realistic possibility than it did just a few days ago.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Giulia and her potential WWE move as we hear more.
