There has been an update on a reported rule in the relationship between CMLL and AEW.
Earlier today, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported that, as part of CMLL’s partnership with AEW, no other Mexican wrestlers were allowed to feature for Tony Khan on the same show as their talent. However, this has now seemingly been opposed by new reports.
Per Fightful Select, it’s said that the earlier suggestion of CMLL talent not featuring with other Mexican stars on AEW TV is ‘outright false’, with the January 31 edition of Dynamite referenced due to its use of Komander on the same show as the group of CMLL wrestlers appeared.
AEW sources have claimed that the report that part of the deal between CMLL and AEW is that no Mexican wrestlers can appear on the same shows as CMLL talent, is outright false. They pointed to Komander appearing on the Jan 31 AEW Dynamite when the group from CMLL appeared. Penta was also scheduled to appear on AEW programming this week, but ended up running into travel issues. It was stated that CMLL talent is not supposed to be booked in angles or matches with AAA talent.

AEW and CMLL appear to have maintained a strong relationship, particularly as it has already been announced that the Blackpool Combat Club will travel to Arena Mexico to take on some of the Mexican company’s top stars on March 29.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on AEW’s relationship with CMLL as soon as we hear more.
