Reported Talk Of Matt Sydal Returning To AEW In The Near Future

Matt Sydal could be set to return to the AEW ring.
Having not competed since Hope For The Holidays 2025, it’s been over six months since Matt Sydal stepped into the ring. His in-ring appearances had become more sporadic towards the end of last year, but it may not be long before we see Sydal back in an AEW ring.
According to an update from PWInsider, it’s believed there’s talk of Matt Sydal returning to AEW in the near future.
“Sydal took time off to finally have a much needed foot surgery stemming from a motorcycle wreck years ago that greatly hampered his work in the ring and led to constant pain. We are told there’s been talk of late about him returning to the AEW ring in the near future.”

As mentioned, Sydal last wrestled in December 2025, but his most recent AEW match came seven months prior. On the May 22 episode of Dynamite last year, the 43-year-old lost to Konosuke Takeshita in under two minutes, being absent from Dynamite and Collision since.
As yet, there’s no indication as to when AEW may be looking to re-introduce Matt Sydal to their programming, though it’s worth remembering that the star has been with the company for almost six years, signing in time for All Out 2020.
