The former AEW International Champion is set to stay with AEW for the time being.

Over the past few weeks, several reports have emerged revealing that AEW have added injury tine to Rey Fenix’s contract in order to prevent him from making a planned move to WWE alongside his brother Penta, who is now a free agent.

In today’s edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that AEW are said to have added roughly a year’s worth of injury time onto Fenix’s deal, although the 33-year-old is actively looking to find a way out of the deal.

“One person close to the Lucha Bros said it’s close to a year that has been tacked on Rey Fenix’s AEW deal, and obviously he’s trying to put pressure on to get out of it.”

Whilst Fenix’s move to WWE seems to be on hold, Penta is expected to debut for the company imminently, with vignettes teasing his arriving airing on the last couple of episode of Monday Night RAW.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the future of Rey Fenix as soon as we hear more.
