‘The Tribal Chief’ may not be in the title picture come WrestleMania.
When Drew McIntyre captured the Undisputed WWE Championship last Friday night, questions were raised among the fanbase regarding the direction for WrestleMania. Prior to the title change, reports indicated that the company were looking to set up Cody Rhodes vs Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42, despite names like McIntyre and Jacob Fatu circling the title in the months prior. Now, an update has emerged on what WWE might be planning for the ‘Show Of Shows’ following last Friday’s Three Stages of Hell match.
According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed the change in plan will see Roman Reigns fall to the wayside when it comes to the Undisputed WWE Championship at WrestleMania 42.
“We were told that Reigns will be the odd man out of the WWE title picture. He is scheduled to return at the Rumble and one would expect his direction to be clearer there. The two ideas for Mania at this point are a three-way for the title with Rhodes, Fatu and McIntyre, or just McIntyre vs. Rhodes.”

Roman Reigns spent over 1,300 on top of WWE from 2020 to 2024. However, since losing the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship to Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 40, ‘The Tribal Chief’ is yet to challenge for the company’s top gold.
The 40-year-old has competed in 10 matches April 2024, including the 2025 Royal Rumble and two War Games matches. As yet, when he’ll re-enter the title picture remains to be seen.
Elsewhere in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Meltzer revealed more on when WWE decided to pull the trigger on Drew McIntyre’s title win. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE’s plans for Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 42 as soon as we hear more.
