WWE originally had big plans for Legado Del Fantasma in AAA.
On October 8, PWInsider reported that Santos Escobar had agreed to a new deal with WWE, just one day after entering free agency following reports that he had previously turned down the company’s contract offers.
BodySlam+ has provided new details on scrapped plans for Santos Escobar prior to his brief WWE exit, reporting that he was originally slated to defeat El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship before the direction changed, with the title instead going to Dominik Mysterio.
“Santos Escobar was lined up to defeat El Hijo del Vikingo for the AAA Mega Championship at one point with Los Garza being the AAA World Tag Team Champions as well. That was the direction being discussed before plans shifted. Dominik Mysterio ultimately ended up being the one dethroning Vikingo.”

While those plans for Escobar ultimately didn’t materialise, his Legado Del Fantasma stablemates Angel and Berto did find success in AAA, capturing the vacant AAA World Tag Team Titles at TripleMania Regia III on June 15 before later dropping them to Pagano and Psycho Clown at TripleMania XXXIII on August 16.
With Escobar now back under the WWE banner, it remains to be seen whether discussions of major involvement with AAA will be revisited.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Santos Escobar following his return to WWE as soon as we hear more.
