Santos Escobar may be out of WWE soon.

Last competing on a WWE SuperShow in Mexico, Santos Escobar has wrestled just seven times in 2025. As part of Legado Del Fantasma, his most recent televised appearance came at June’s WWE x AAA: Worlds Collide event. After the 41-year-old shared several cryptic posts online, fans began to speculate about his future, and a new update now suggests that his time with WWE could be nearing its end.

Per Fightful Select, it’s believed Santos Escobar’s contract with WWE is up very soon, with all signs pointing towards a departure.

“WWE sources confirmed to Fightful Select this morning that Santos Escobar’s contract is up “very soon,” and it hasn’t looked like he’ll be staying with the company as of now. It was implied the two sides had discussed an extension, but we’ve not confirmed as much.”

Following Fightful’s report, PWInsider are now reporting that Escobar is set to become a free agent as of midnight tonight, with the former King Cuerno reportedly turning down multiple contract offers from WWE.

“Unless there is a last second Hail Mary pass that leads to him agreeing to a new deal, Santos Escobar will depart WWE as of midnight, PWInsider.com can confirm.  At that point, he will be a free agent and available to wrestle or sign anywhere he wishes. We are told his contract expires at the end of the day and that WWE made overtures to keep Escobar (including a higher contract offer) but he turned down the offer.”

Escobar first became known to WWE fans as El Hijo del Fantasma, capturing the Interim Cruiserweight Championship before revealing his true identity. Having spent more than six years with the company since signing in August 2019, he is expected to attract significant interest from other promotions should he depart in the near future.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Santos Escobar’s WWE status as soon as we hear more.
