During the December 7th edition of AEW Dynamite, it was revealed that Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter will team up to take on Saraya and a partner of her choosing on the 11th January edition of AEW Dynamite, prompting a response from the fans, who collectively began to speculate on the prospect that the mystery position could filled by Sasha Banks, aided by the fact that the match was being promoted much earlier than AEW’s usual timescale for promotions.
Fuelling the rumours further, PWInsider recently reported that Sasha Banks is expected to be at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 17 event in January, which has caused even more speculation from fans, due to AEW’s current working relationship with NJPW.
Saraya had the chance to address these rumours during a recent interview with Forbes, highlighting that there are multiple women’s wrestlers who could appear on the January 11th show, although she never outright denied the potential of Mercedes Varnado being that wrestler.
“I feel like anytime there’s a mystery, everyone always goes straight for Mercedes (laughs). They’re like straight away it’s her! There’s plenty of women out there, I’m not going to say yes or no to anybody, but there’s a lot of exciting prospects for a potential tag partner.”

Saraya continued to show respect for her former colleague, mentioning that she’d love to work with Sasha again if the opportunity presented itself.
“I’ve always said that I would want to work with Sasha again in any capacity, because she’s a pro. In the wrestling side of things, she’s such a fantastic athlete, you can’t deny her talent. She’s fantastic.”
-Saraya
It’s worth noting that at this time, no official reports have indicated that Varnado will be appearing on the AEW show, however, the timing of several other reports have fans rather excited at the prospect of her joining the company.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Mercedes Varnado’s future in pro-wrestling, as well as the indentity of Saraya’s mystery partner as soon as we hear more.
