Some in WWE want Alberto Del Rio on the main roster again.

Since Alberto El Patron (known to WWE fans as Alberto Del Rio) lost to Mesias on July 25, speculation has continued to grow over his future. The defeat meant that the 48-year-old had to leave AAA, and this led many to believe a WWE return may be on the horizon. However, earlier in the week, reports indicated that the company have no interest in the former World Heavyweight Champion making a comeback. While that still seems to be the case, there now appears to be some in WWE who would want to see Del Rio back.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that there are those in WWE who believe that Alberto El Patron could be a major heel on the main roster if he was reintroduced today. Though, there’s a belief that he will soon return to AAA.

“As of right now, there are no plans for Alberto El Patron in the U.S. market. But that could change. The belief is he will return to AAA soon. There are those in WWE who do want him on the main roster as they see his work as excellent in AAA (his matches are nothing but he does carry himself like a major superstar), since he was the most over guy and see him now as a guy who can be a major heel on the main roster or the top face on the AAA roster. However there is the negative baggage, including the social media reaction to him.”

For now, it appears as if WWE aren’t set to facilitate a return for Alberto El Patron, but the situation is certainly one to keep an eye on in the coming weeks. As far as future acquisitions go, it was also stated by Meltzer that WWE and AAA aren’t currently wanting to get into a bidding war with CMLL over signings, instead focusing on talented independent wrestlers.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Alberto El Patron’s future as soon as we hear more.
