Some in WWE were reportedly against Brock Lesnar’s return.

At SummerSlam, fans were stunned by the surprise return of Brock Lesnar, marking his first WWE appearance in almost two years. Originally scheduled to appear at the 2024 Royal Rumble, the 48-year-old was pulled from all creative plans after being named in Janel Grant’s ongoing lawsuit against Vince McMahon and WWE. However, once the company’s legal department cleared him, discussions began about bringing him back to programming. Now, new details have emerged regarding the internal reaction to The Beast’s return.

In a new update, Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter wrote that some within WWE were “strongly against” Brock Lesnar’s return.

“It was told to us that some were strongly against it and that some women on the staff were even more unhappy with one using the term privately disgusted. Even after, there was the belief Lesnar’s return provided a momentary live pop, but even though fan reaction in the building was more a huge star was back as a positive and not a negative, many production team members don’t believe he moved the needle past the first week and many felt the segment with R-Truth was embarrassing. There was no discussion with staff after regarding the lawsuit or allegations.”

Since his controversial return, Lesnar has reignited his feud with John Cena as part of Cena’s retirement tour. ‘The Beast’ scored a victory over the 17-time World Champion at Wrestlepalooza, though he has yet to make another appearance since the September Premium Live Event.

Regarding WWE’s plans for Lesnar moving forward, recent reports have indicated that a match with Bron Breakker at WrestleMania 42 is being considered. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Brock Lesnar as soon as we hear more.
