Sonya Deville has revealed that she was in the midst of negotiating with WWE when she was let go.

On February 8, it emerged that WWE had informed Sonya Deville of their intent not to renew her contract. The 31-year-old was one of eleven whose departure from the company was confirmed that weekend, although Deville’s was the only case of WWE opting not to renew rather than releasing her from her current deal. Now, Sonya has revealed more about her contract situation prior to receiving the news of her exit from WWE.

Speaking on Daria & Toni Unwrapped, Deville revealed that she was actually in the middle of negotiations with WWE over a new contract when she was told they weren’t going to renew.

“We were in the middle of negotiations, and so I thought the phone call was gonna be the middle ground that we met on, an agreement, a contract. And it was, ‘We are not renewing your contract’. So for complete transparency, which, this is really the first time I’m saying this, I was shocked.”

The former WWE Women’s Tag Team Champion added that she loved every minute of her time with the company and isn’t in a position to say anything bad about them after her exit. As yet, Deville’s post-WWE plans are unclear and it’s unknown when fans will see her step into the ring again.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Sonya Deville following her WWE departure as soon as we hear more.
