Sting Says He’s Proud Of Darby Allin As If He Was His Son Following AEW World Championship Win

Sting is proud of Darby Allin after AEW World Championship win.
On last week’s Dynamite, Darby Allin immediately invoked the AEW World Championship match he’d earned by defeating Andrade at Dynasty just days earlier. The decision appeared to take then champion MJF by surprise, but it was confirmed the title match would go ahead to close the show, leading to Allin’s very emotional capture of the gold in the main event. Now, Sting has reflected on his protégé’s title win.
In new footage shared by AEW on X, Sting expressed how proud he is of Darby Allin.
“I told him years ago that he is World Championship calibre and he proved it tonight. The rest is history. It’s not showtime, it’s Darby time. I’m proud of him like he’s my son, yeah.”
-Sting
Sting and Darby began their alliance back in December 2020 when ‘The Icon’ made his debut to confront Team Taz. Since then, the 67-year-old has been a mentor to the former TNT Champion, with Allin being by Sting’s side in each of his 28 AEW matches across over three years. Memorably, the duo even defended the AEW World Tag Team Championships against The Young Bucks in Sting’s final match.
On tonight’s Dynamite, Allin will look to make his first defence of the AEW World Championship against Tommaso Ciampa. Before the match, it’s worth noting ‘The Psycho Killer’ has previous for winning gold on his first attempt, having won the ROH TV, NXT, and AEW TNT Championships respectively on his first go around.
