Swerve Strickland recalls the syringe spot with Hangman Page.

At AEW All Out 2024, Hangman Page defeated Swerve Strickland inside a steel cage. Towards the end of the contest, fans saw Hangman inject his opponent’s mouth with a syringe, sparking fierce discourse online. Now, the 35-year-old has looked back on the gruesome spot, discussing why he wanted to include it in the match.

Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Strickland noted how the syringe spot isn’t something seen often in televised American wrestling, explaining how the severity of the moment fitted his epic feud with Hangman Page.

“It was just something that I don’t think has been seen on American soil, television-wise, in a major promotion like that in a while, because it’s something that’s like, why would you do that? Why would anybody do that? Good, that’s why I’m doing it. [People said] ‘That’s dumb.’ ‘Why would you do that?’ Well you’re talking about it, it’s the moment, and I wouldn’t do that with anybody else… We’ve already took it so far. He already burned down my house. Where else further do you go with someone that you hate? And it was just like he hates me that much to just do something like that.”

Having not been seen since losing to Kazuchika Okada at Forbidden Door, Swerve Strickland made his return to All Elite Wrestling at this past weekend’s Full Gear pay-per-view. Following Hangman Page’s shocking loss of the AEW World Championship to Samoa Joe, Strickland emerged to see off The Opps and once again set his sights on the company’s top gold.

Speaking of the AEW World Championship, Strickland also spoke to Chris Van Vliet about becoming the company’s first black men’s world champion. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Swerve Strickland as soon as we hear more.
