The AEW World Champion is renegotiating his deal.
The rise of Swerve Strickland has been a major focus of AEW over the last few months, riding a wave of momentum that saw him defeat Samoa Joe to become the AEW World Champion last April. Now, it seems like Swerve is sticking around for the long run.
Speaking with Barstool Rasslin’, Strickland discussed how much he’s enjoying his time with AEW and revealed that he’s current renegotiating his deal with the company.
“I’ve always said me winning the AEW World Championship was phase two. That was the beginning of phase two of my career. Right now, I’m in the midst of like a renegotiation stage because I’m really enjoying my status here in AEW, I’m enjoying everything about the locker room, the roster, the talent, the promotion. I love the fact that I’m a really big part of building the company to different revenue, different avenues and things like that, as far as AEW. So that’s going to be the beginning of phase three of my career, and this is truly just the beginning of what’s about to happen for me, not just the wrestling side but everything altogether as a performer,”

Strickland has certainly been a revelation since he signed for All Elite Wrestling in 2022. The 33-year-old has been the AEW World Champion for 120 days to this point, and will next put his title on the line against Bryan Danielson when he’ll have the chance to retire ‘The American Dragon’ at Wembley Stadium.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Swerve’s AEW contract renegotiation as soon as we hear more.
