Tama Tonga may soon be on WWE’s books.
Shortly after capturing the NEVER Openweight Championship for the fourth time at Wrestle Kingdom 18, Tama Tonga raised eyebrows by announcing that he was set to leave New Japan Pro Wrestling, the company in which he has spent nearly 14 years with. Now, we have an idea as to what his next step may be.
Per Dave Meltzer in a subscriber exclusive on F4WOnline, it’s been revealed that Tama Tonga is on his way to WWE, having competed in his last NJPW match this past Saturday against Hikuleo and El Phantasmo.
“WWE sources have confirmed that Aliopate Aloisio Leone, better known as Tama Tonga, is headed to the company.”
-Dave Meltzer
Tonga’s move to WWE doesn’t come as too much of a surprise, as he had held talks with the wrestling giant when he contract expired last year. On that occasion, he chose to commit another year to NJPW, but will now make the switch to America in order to spend more time with his family and pursue new career avenues.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Tama Tonga’s move to WWE as soon as we hear more.
