Nixon Newell (FKA Tegan Nox) recalls what it was like to work with Becky Lynch.
On October 9, 2023, Becky Lynch retained the NXT Women’s Championship over Tegan Nox in just under 15 minutes on Monday Night RAW. During the Irishwoman’s reign with the title, she looked to work with those who hadn’t previously had the spotlight on the main roster and ended up defending the NXT gold against Indi Hartwell and Tiffany Stratton before losing to Lyra Valkyria.
Reflecting on her match with Lynch, Tegan Nox, now known as Nixon Newell, told Alistair McGeorge of Metro that she was incredibly nervous to be working with ‘The Man’ and so she thinks her performance suffered from nerves getting the best of her.
“I think it could have gone a lot better on my end. That wasn’t my best performance, and I know it wasn’t. I was so incredibly nervous. I think that’s one of the few times that my nerves got the better than me in a match. So, I would have loved to have been able to run that back,”

Nixon said that Lynch asked for the people she wanted to work with during her NXT Title reign, discussing she fought ‘tooth and nail’ to wrestle Newell on RAW.
“She’s such a nice person, she asked for all the people that she wanted to work with, which is wild, for her to even go, ‘I want to work with Nixon.’ I think even though it wasn’t my best performance, it made people go, ‘Oh, she can actually wrestle.’ I’m like, ‘Yes, and I can do better than that, if you give me the chance,”

Newell then recalled how she hoped that the match with Lynch would lead to bigger things for her down the line even though the company didn’t seem to have more plans for her.
“Unfortunately, I never got the chance to show that. But that entire situation with Becky was just mind-blowing, and something that I will hold very dear to me, not just the rest of my career, but for the rest of my life. I think it was a case of Becky wanted to work with me, so I did. I was hoping it would go somewhere. I was hoping people would go, “Oh, she can actually wrestle. Like, let’s give her something. But there’s so many people in that company that it’s hard to get on your feet and running unless something insane happens. I just don’t think it was my time,”

Nox was released by WWE in November 2024 and is now a free agent. Her last match came on July 5 of last year, but the 30-year-old is set to return to the ring on May 18 when she battles Dani Luna in Attack! Pro Wrestling.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Nixon Newell post-WWE departure as soon as we hear more.
