The Miz discusses WWE releases and how Dolph Ziggler being let go impacted him.
As of writing, The Miz has spent over two decades with WWE, finding success with the company as a two-time Grand Slam Champion. However, as we’ve seen in recent years, even the most tenured of WWE’s talent are at risk of being released if those in charge are ready to move on, and it seems as if even ‘The A-Lister’ gets worried about potentially being let go after seeing many of his friends leave the company.
Speaking with Chris Van Vliet on Insight, Miz opened up about wondering if he’s next when it comes to releases, noting that Dolph Ziggler’s departure was tough for him to see.
“Honestly, every time there’s a release, I’m like, ‘Oh, no, is it me?’ [Dolph Ziggler’s release] was a tough one for me to see him go because it was kind of like the last of my really core group of friends. I have friends in the locker room, but that was like my core group of friends. I’ve had such great matches with Dolph, too. Like, him putting his career up and me the IC title, that whole IC Title reign, he was a big part of elevating that title as well. And so to see him go is tough, but that’s the name of this business. It happens. Those types of things happen. For me, this is going to sound very cocky and arrogant, I know how valuable I am. I know how good I am. And whether the audience sees it or not, I know people know. If you’ve wrestled me, you know. And so yes, there’s always in the back of your mind, ‘Oh, is it me?’ But then there’s also that other part that goes, ‘Man, I’ve done a lot in this business and I still got more.”
-The Miz
The Miz and Dolph Ziggler were career-long rivals while in WWE and were often seen feuding over the Intercontinental Championship. Perhaps most famously, they clashed at No Mercy 2016 in a match which saw ‘The Show Off’ put his career on the line for an opportunity at the title, winning the gold from The Miz in dramatic fashion.
Ziggler was released from WWE back in September of 2023, although he made a surprise appearance in the Last Time Is Now Tournament where he lost to Solo Sikoa in November 2025.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on both Dolph Ziggler and The Miz as soon as we hear more.
