WWE’s ‘PG Era’ has seemingly come to an end.
On July 22nd, 2008, WWE programming was labelled as a TV-PG rating under the TV Parental Guidelines, with excessive violence being toned down, alongside profanity and sexual content, with almost all promos being heavily scripted from this point on.
Within today’s issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer revealed that following The Rock’s interviews ahead of his WrestleMania 40 in-ring return and Paul Heyman’s Hall of Fame induction speech, the company now consider the ‘PG Era’ to be over, although its unclear as to whether this means changes to WWE programming are imminent.
“It was said that The Rock’s interviews and Paul Heyman’s HOF promo are considered the official end of the PG era. This isn’t to say that the TV shows will be changing. That is something talked about but no decision has been made.”

Most notably during The Rock’s recent stint on WWE television, his backstage assault on Cody Rhodes led to the Rhodes blading, something that had long been banned by the company and previously was met with heavy fines.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE’s ‘PG Era’ coming to an end as soon as we hear more.
