The Young Bucks talk coming close to signing with WWE.

Over six years ago, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and Cody Rhodes left New Japan Pro Wrestling to form AEW, becoming Executive Vice Presidents and changing the wrestling world. However, when their deals with NJPW came up in 2019, the group had considerable interest from WWE and could’ve chosen to jump there instead of launching their own promotion. Now, Matt and Nick Jackson have looked back on nearly signing with WWE.

Speaking to Adam’s Apple, The Young Bucks were asked how close they came to signing with WWE. After Nick said the pair were ‘pretty close’ to joining the company, Matt discussed having negotiations in 2019.

“There was never an actual physical contract, but we were negotiating… 2019 was probably the closest… We had a groundswell at the time with the stuff we were doing in Japan and on the indies. I think they just wanted to buy in on it.”

-Matt Jackson

Matt and Nick Jackson have been cornerstones of All Elite Wrestling since its inception. They have captured the AEW World Tag Team Championships a record three times, most recently holding the gold for 192 days in 2024, and it’s now hard to imagine them outside the company. Still, many will wonder what things would’ve been like had they opted to move to WWE in 2019.

Up next for The Young Bucks, the pair will team with Josh Alexander to take on Kenny Omega and Jurassic Express at Full Gear.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on The Young Bucks as soon as we hear more.
