The Young Bucks were reportedly on board with showing the All In backstage footage, despite earlier reports.
Coming out of last night’s AEW Dynamite, many fans were discussing the segment in which The Young displayed the footage of the backstage altercation between CM Punk and Jack Perry at Wembley Stadium. The team suggested that the incident had thrown them off ahead of their AEW World Tag Team Championship match against FTR later in the night at All In, and we now know more about the segment and why the footage was shown.
Per an update from Fightful Select, it’s believed that the idea came from Tony Khan following CM Punk’s interview with Ariel Helwani last week, and the move to promote it on the Collision directly following WrestleMania was intentional.
“We’ve learned that Tony Khan had the idea last week following Punk’s interview with Helwani, and the numerous shots last week in the media from WWE personalities accelerated the decision. By late last week, creative was set for the video, and the decision to promote it right after WrestleMania was planned.”

With the idea coming from Khan, it was reported earlier in the day that The Young Bucks weren’t in favour of the footage being shown. However, Fightful clarify that the Bucks were fine with their planned segment on Dynamite, including the backstage video. It’s also noted that the angle was cleared with FTR and that there are no issues between them and CM Punk as a result of the segment.
“Regarding rumors that Young Bucks weren’t in favour of the segment, we’re told that isn’t true and they were fine with doing the angle. We’re told FTR were given a heads up about the decision to promote it, and signed off on it, and were in the line of thinking that if it adds to the storyline or buzz around it, that’s fine.”

On the WWE side of things, it’s believed that many were talking about the footage being shown, but the focus was on WrestleMania and they intense period they’d just had. It’s stated that Punk isn’t being punished in the company and that a few described the video as a ‘self own’ while some didn’t care.
In AEW, it’s reported that a portion of the locker room wished the TV time was given to others who are with the company now, while many viewed the situation as a ‘no-win’ after the various shots that those in WWE have taken within the last week.
Elsewhere in the AEW locker room there were natural “wish someone else would have got that TV time,” reactions. Several in AEW felt like they were in a no-win situation after CM Punk’s Helwani interview, him poking fun at Ospreay, Triple H poking at Ospreay, Michael Cole’s references to AEW, and Pat McAfee taking shots at Tony Khan and AEW.”

From AEW’s point of view, the hope is that the angle will help Jack Perry ahead of his eventual return, particularly with him wrestling in front of a Chicago crowd tomorrow at NJPW’s Windy City Riot. However, it remains to be seen as to whether this will have the desired effect.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the reaction to The Young Bucks’ AEW Dynamite segment as soon as we hear more.
