AEW’s President is a big fan of ‘The Phenomenal One’.
AJ Styles’s loss to GUNTHER at the Royal Rumble on January 31 has sent fan speculation into overdrive. While the stipulation required Styles to retire after the defeat, trademark filings, the focus on his ‘WWE career’ ending, and the act of putting his gloves back on have all led to scepticism that we have not seen the last of him in the ring.
With many fans speculating that Styles could eventually appear in AEW, Tony Khan was asked about the former WWE Champion while speaking to Baby Huey on 107.7 The Bone, and he revealed that he is a huge fan.
“AJ Styles is one of the greatest wrestlers I’ve ever seen. I’ve been a fan of AJ Styles for decades. I grew up watching AJ Styles. I think he’s one of the best I’ve seen. Since I was a teenager, I’ve been watching him. I also think that whether it’s been overseas internationally or here in the US, everywhere he’s been, he’s been a top star and a huge addition to that promotion. Some of the very best wrestling I’ve ever seen, AJ Styles did in New Japan Pro Wrestling with the Bullet Club. I think that AJ Styles all over the world, is respected as one of the all-time greats.”

Styles himself added fuel to the speculation last week by jokingly saying that every wrestler is allowed to come out of retirement at least once. You can read more about that here.
While Styles’s in ring and contract status remains uncertain, the topic was reportedly a major talking point at last Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, with the company expected to pursue him if it is able to do so. You can read more about that here.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on AJ Styles’ future as soon as we hear more.
