Tony Khan Says Athena Could Be Added To The ROH Hall Of Fame

Athena could soon be a Ring of Honor Hall of Famer.

Since its launch in 2002, Ring of Honor has been a cornerstone of the American wrestling scene, with countless world-renowned wrestlers passing through the promotion. The company established its own Hall of Fame in 2022 to honour some of the biggest names from its history, although no further inductions have taken place since Tony Khan purchased ROH later that year. However, Khan has suggested that could soon change, revealing that a current star has a strong case for future induction.

Appearing on the Battleground Podcast, Khan said there are several potential candidates he could look to add to the ROH Hall of Fame in the future, with record-breaking ROH Women’s World Champion Athena standing out as a particularly strong contender.

“I have not added to the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame. It was a fantastic inaugural class, that Ring of Honor, the previous administration, had inducted. So that was something that had already been set up when I bought the company. I think they picked a fantastic class, and I do think there are people that would be fantastic additions to the Ring of Honor Hall of Fame, and it is definitely something to think about and something I am interested in. I absolutely think she [Athena] would have an excellent case to be in that.”

Athena has held the ROH Women’s Championship since December 10, 2022, when she defeated Mercedes Martinez at ROH Final Battle. During her historic reign, she has competed in 77 matches for the promotion while remaining a key part of the television product, alongside appearances for AEW and STARDOM. Her title run has included successful defences against the likes of Willow Nightingale, Billie Starkz, and Queen Aminata.

The inaugural ROH Hall of Fame class featured Samoa Joe, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, The Briscoes (Mark and Jay), and former owner Cary Silkin. All five wrestlers inducted are former ROH World Champions, while Silkin continued to serve as a company ambassador for 11 years following his seven-year ownership of the promotion.
