Tony Schiavone weighs in on the rumours surround Chris Jericho’s future.

Earlier this month, Chris Jericho’s AEW status was brought into the spotlight when reports indicated that his contract is set to expire at the end of the year. Many linked Jericho to a return to WWE, and rumours of a comeback grew stronger when the 54-year-old liked a post suggesting he should make the move when his current deal was up. Now, one of AEW’s most iconic announcers has weighed in on the situation.

When asked to comment about the rumours on his What Happened When podcast, Schiavone clarified that nothing has been said to him regarding Jericho’s status.

“If there is smoke to that fire, it has not been thrown my way.”

Elaborating, Schiavone explained that he was backstage with Tony Khan a lot of the time the company was in the UK and didn’t hear of Jericho’s name being brought up, though he pointed out that this shouldn’t necessarily act as an indicator of whether the former world champion will be back in AEW.

“I was backstage with Tony Khan most of this entire trip. Chris Jericho’s name was not mentioned, but that doesn’t mean anything. Tony a lot of times will make this — he’ll get on the phone with that person and not tell anybody. He likes to keep things close to the vest. I don’t know, I really don’t know. I’ve been wondering myself. I guess I should’ve asked and then I would’ve known. I don’t ask because I don’t want to get blamed if it leaks. The less you know, the better.”

With no official word on his future, rumours regarding Jericho’s status are likely to persist as we approach the latter stages of 2025. For now though, the story remains one to keep an eye on as the on-screen fallout from Forbidden Door continues on AEW’s weekly programming.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Chris Jericho’s future as soon as we hear more.
