On March 11, 2022, Pete Dunne made his main roster debut, aligning himself with Sheamus and Ridge Holland. Though, it became clear that the company had changed the former NXT UK Champion’s name to ‘Butch’ which understandably caused concern among the WWE universe. The trio formed ‘The Brawling Brutes’ who became one of the company’s most popular acts but the Butch name still leaves a bad taste in many fans’ mouths.

Despite the success of the act, many are still wondering whether we will ever see a return to Pete Dunne and his acclaimed ‘Bruiserweight’ gimmick. Now, in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer has revealed that Triple H has had the idea of reverting Butch back to his old gimmick to be used in NXT.

“Butch has teased going back to the name Pete Dunne and go back to the Bruiserweight gimmick. It’s said Paul Levesque has the idea of him dropping the current gimmick and doing the gimmick in NXT, which makes sense”

– Dave Meltzer

Whether this comes to be remains to be seen but many will be excited over the potential of WWE giving Pete Dunne the ability to showcase his former gimmick again.

As always, we’ll aim to update you on Butch’s name change as well as his potential future in NXT as soon as we hear more.
