The long-time WWE Chairman isn’t to be named onscreen moving forward per the latest reports.
This past Monday’s episode of RAW saw a heated promo battle between CM Punk, Seth Rollins, and Drew Mclntyre, during which Punk asked Drew who labeled him ‘The Chosen One’ during his initial run with the company, of course referencing former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, who recently stepped down as TKO’s Executive Chairman due to an ongoing investigation into allegations of sex trafficking and sexual assault.
Whilst recapping the segment on the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed that the line caused some concern as McMahon is now banned from being mentioned on WWE television, although thankfully McIntyre was able to swiftly move onwards.
“So, I mean, the gist of the segment, it was that….it was not scripted word for word, which most thing. Most things on that show…they let the guys have free rein, there was one moment where there were a lot of people thinking this may not be a good idea, which was the one when McIntyre brought up, you know, it was the Vince McMahon reference when McIntyre brought up being The Chosen One. And then Punk Goes, who chose you? It was kind of like, ‘Oh, God,’ because I guess one of the things is that Vince McMahon’s name is not allowed to be mentioned on TV. But McIntyre changed focus and never mentioned the name, and they got out of it,”

Outside of that moment the trio delivered a well-received segment that further built excitement towards Seth Rollins’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship defence against Drew Mclntyre at WrestleMania 40, a match that now looks set to feature CM Punk in some capacity.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the investigation into Vince McMahon and what that means for his involvement with WWE moving forward as soon as we hear more.
