Will Ospreay wants the opportunity to beat Kenny Omega clean

Back in 2023, Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega battled over the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship, with Omega defeating Ospreay to capture the title at Wrestle Kingdom 17 at the Tokyo Dome on January 4, before Ospreay reclaimed the gold at Forbidden Door in June.

Speaking to Wrestling Brain, Will Ospreay opened up about Kenny Omega’s influence on him as a professional wrestler and revealed that he’s still hoping the pair will face off once again in singles action.

“That’s the wall that I need to climb. We’ve had two matches. One at the Tokyo Dome and one at Forbidden Door. We’ve won one each, and something sours me about the second one because maybe I did need Don [Callis] to beat him, but I want to be able to be in a position where I could say, honestly, I think I could beat Kenny Omega clean. — Kenny [Omega] inspires me all the time. To have the thing that happened to him where he nearly died, like, I think we all blow past that and we don’t talk about it enough. He actually was so close to dying, and he’s back, and he’s looking the best that he’s looked in flipping years, man. He’s smashing it.”

Will Ospreay is set to challenge Jon Moxley for the AEW Continental Championship at AEW Dynasty on Sunday, April 12, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, while Kenny Omega will main event the show as he takes on MJF for the AEW World Championship.

With many fans anticipating that 2026 could be the year Will Ospreay finally captures the AEW World Championship at AEW All In at Wembley Stadium, it’s possible that Kenny Omega could be the man standing in his way should Omega leave this weekend as champion.

Whilst All Elite Wrestling and New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s working relationship played a major part in Will Ospreay and Kenny Omega’s series, Ospreay recently took aim at TNA Wrestling’s recent decision to pull talent from shows featuring AEW wrestlers. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on future plans for Will Ospreay as soon as we hear more.
