Could John Cena be in line to win the Intercontinental Championship?

John Cena is undoubtedly one of the biggest stars in wrestling history. However, while there are just four dates left on his retirement tour, one title still eludes him. With many fans wanting to see the 48-year-old win the Intercontinental Championship before the end of the year, it now appears as if WWE have considered Cena becoming a Grand Slam Champion.

In a new update, Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the idea of Cena defeating Dominik Mysterio for the Intercontinental Championship has been discussed in WWE.

The idea of Cena winning the IC title from Dominik (the match right now is at Survivor Series) and it being in play for the final match with Gunther has been discussed.”

While Cena’s next in-ring appearance hasn’t been officially announced, the 17-time world champion stole the show last time out when he took on AJ Styles at Crown Jewel.

As mentioned by Meltzer, the legend’s final match is likely to be GUNTHER, and it was recently reported how WWE may have him earn the right to be Cena’s last opponent. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE’s plans for John Cena as soon as we hear more.
