An update has emerged on WWE’s stance on blading, as well as what happened with Drew McIntyre inside Hell in a Cell.

Last Saturday, WWE opened the Hell In A Cell Premium Live Event with CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre inside the structure. During the match, both men were busted open which is something rarely seen in the company in the modern era. Now, more is known when it comes to their current stance on blood and the plans last weekend.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that WWE planned for CM Punk to bleed, with it noted that the company are happy to approve it in key moments. However, it was clarified that McIntyre wasn’t supposed to be busted open.

“Punk was supposed to get blood as WWE now will do blading for key matches and angles with Vince McMahon gone, but the idea is not to overdo it. The plan was not for McIntyre to get blood.”

Expanding on McIntyre being accidentally busted open, Meltzer wrote that WWE were strongly considering getting a doctor into the cell to stop the bleeding, although Drew was said to have been in control at all times and ended up finishing the match without any further issues.

“Backstage and at ringside they were panicking because of how bad the wound was and that he was so bloody and it wouldn’t stop. They at first talked about having the doctor get in the cage and trying to stop the bleeding but the decision was made not to do it because it was Hell in a Cell. They wanted to wipe the blood off him with a towel. McIntyre basically took control and said that if he felt woozy he would give them the word and they would go right to the finish. While he took a hard shot, he showed no signs of a concussion, they proceeded as planned with no issues and he was very aware of what was going on and in control at all times.”

Following their intense Hell in a Cell match, what’s next for both Punk and McIntyre is unclear. Emphasising the effects of the bout this past weekend, Drew missed the October 7 episode of Monday Night RAW, while the Chicagoan will likely return to the fold in a couple of weeks.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE’s stance on blading and Drew McIntyre’s unintentional use of blood as soon as we hear more.
