WWE Reportedly Discussed Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes Hell In A Cell For WrestleMania 42

WWE reportedly discussed a Hell in a Cell match between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes for WrestleMania.
After the pair shared a tense staredown to close Survivor Series, reports supported the idea that WWE could be setting up a further WrestleMania main event between Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes. However, after ‘The Tribal Chief’ used his Royal Rumble win to challenge World Heavyweight Champion CM Punk, their third match didn’t come to be. With plans for the company’s biggest show having changed, more has emerged regarding the pitch to have Reigns and Rhodes meet one more time.
According to Dave Meltzer in the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed WWE initially discussed Roman Reigns vs. Cody Rhodes inside Hell in a Cell at WrestleMania 42.
“Those in WWE that we asked said that there was never a serious thought or plan, but Hell in a Cell was heavily discussed for Rhodes vs. Reigns before the decision to change everything after the injury to Seth Rollins and the decision to put the title on McIntyre.”

This comes just days after reports emerged that WWE had also considered the Hell in a Cell stipulation for a clash between Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre at WrestleMania. As yet, with five matches confirmed for the show so far, the company are yet to announce any to take place inside the cell. Of course, this could certainly change in the five weeks that remain before ‘Mania arrives in Las Vegas.
Having claimed the Undisputed WWE Championship for the third time last week, Cody Rhodes will now defend the gold against Randy Orton on the Grandest Stage of Them All. On tonight’s edition of SmackDown, fans will see the contract signing set to make ‘The Viper’ vs ‘The American Nightmare’ official.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE’s WrestleMania plans as soon as we hear more.
