It looks as though WWE have their sights set on another major international market.

Over the past few years, WWE have been expanding their efforts to capture a wider international audience by holding Premium Live Events across a number of locations, with recent shows taking the company across the United Kingdom, Paris, Germany, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, and Australia.

Fightfu Select are now reporting that influential names within WWE are pushing for the company to hold a major event in China, with Hong Kong mooted as a potential location.

“Fightful Select’s Sean Ross Sapp has learned that numerous people of influence within WWE have pushed for WWE to hold a major event in China in the coming years. Specifically, we’ve heard Hong Kong mentioned as a location, with a PLE event discussed internally within WWE as a possibility.”

Whilst this wouldn’t be the first time WWE have attempted to crack the Chinese market, the company have only held eight events in the country previously, with all but two emanating from Shanghai.

Between 2016 and 2019, WWE holding events in China became somewhat of a September tradition, though the company has yet to return since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

With the report adding that Fightful Select has heard about these pushes for a number of months, it appears likely that WWE will finally be making their return to The Middle Kingdom.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the prospect of WWE holding a PLE in China as soon as we hear more.
