WWE are believed to have first refusal on any offers for TNA.
The future of TNA Wrestling has long been discussed since the company formalised a working relationship with WWE in January 2025. Earlier this week, rumours emerged that former UFC CEO Lorenzo Feritta was potentially interested in a purchase of TNA, and an update has now emerged on how their partnership with WWE is likely to affect any future sale.
Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s believed that WWE has an option to buy TNA for a certain amount of time, similar to that which was included in their partnerships with various European promotions such as Progress and OTT. It’s noted that they can opt to match any offers TNA receive, with it being key that the promotion is only sold to a buyer that is happy to keep the company friendly with WWE.
“WWE does have an option for a certain length of time to buy TNA. I don’t know if the price was worked out as part of the deal, only that with the European groups that price was laid out at the start of the deal. The explanation was that WWE also has the right of first refusal to match any other offers for TNA. The idea is that anyone who buys would do so with the idea of being friendly with WWE, not with the idea of being an enemy and that if they can get a media rights deal, the company goes from a money loser to a turnkey profitable company. But if they aren’t friendly to WWE, they aren’t getting the company.”

Any potential sale of TNA Wrestling remains just a rumour at this stage, though whether WWE choose to purchase the company down the line remains to be seen.
Interestingly, Jon Alba of Sports Illustrated also reported on August 14 that TNA were open to moving to Wednesday nights to directly rival AEW Dynamite as part of their ongoing media rights negotiations.
As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the future of TNA Wrestling as soon as we hear more.
