More has emerged regarding the rumoured contract talks between WWE and CM Punk.

Earlier this week, Ibou of WrestlePurists revealed that CM Punk was in the process of restructuring his WWE deal, suggesting that the Chicagoan would like to stay with WWE ‘forever’ if things continued to go well. This led to speculation over Punk’s contract status, and now more has come out regarding the talks between WWE and the ‘Second City Saint’.

Per Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s clarified that Punk initially signed a three-year deal with rollovers, but the company were always expecting to renegotiate a more detailed contract due to how quickly his return came together last November.

“Regarding stories on Punk and a new contract, the original deal he signed was short-term and filled with rollover clauses that would go a lot longer. From those in WWE, it was a three-year max with rollovers deal but that they were expecting to renegotiate it based on how things went at this time. They are in talks about a new more detailed deal as the original one was put together in a few days. This was expected to happen from the start and not something like he’s trying to renegotiate now that he’s in a hot program. It was something always expected to happen if things went well at this time.”

After a successful eight months back in WWE, it seems that both sides are keen to continue working together long into the future. Punk is currently a featured attraction on RAW, and anticipation is high for his upcoming match with Drew McIntyre at SummerSlam.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on WWE renegotiating CM Punk’s contract as soon as we hear more.
