WWE Reportedly Planned Gunther vs. Seth Rollins At WrestleMania 42 Several Weeks Ago

More has emerged on how GUNTHER vs. Seth Rollins came together, including Bron Breakker’s status.
On the March 30 edition of RAW, fans were surprised when GUNTHER attacked Seth Rollins. Given Bron Breakker’s betrayal of his former faction leader back in October, many assumed that, as long as he was cleared in time, Rollins would seek revenge on the 28-year-old at WrestleMania 42. However, Breakker was himself sidelined with a hernia in February, with the GUNTHER match appearing like a last-minute pivot from WWE with the ‘Show Of Shows’ just weeks away. Now, more has emerged on how Rollins’ WrestleMania plans came together.
According to an update from Dave Meltzer on F4WOnline, it’s believed GUNTHER vs. Seth Rollins has been planned for several weeks, with it noted Bron Breakker is currently cleared to return to action.
“Gunther vs. Seth Rollins has been the plan for several weeks as the entire storyline the past few weeks with Rollins and Paul Heyman was always to build for Gunther choking Rollins out in Madison Square Garden last night. This does not have to do with Bron Breakker not being cleared after hernia surgery. Breakker is actually cleared, but the decision was made not to rush into the match. The idea of Rollins vs. Breakker is very much alive, but they are wanting the proper television build time. Gunther being the opponent stemmed from the injury to Bronson Reed. The Vision and Usos were to do a celebrity match involving IShowSpeed and Logan Paul, taking Paul out of a match with Rollins and with Reed out as well, a new opponent for Rollins was needed.”

With it noted Rollins was left without an opponent after Bronson Reed’s injury, it’s worth mentioning that GUNTHER found himself in a similar situation at the end of January. According to a report from Fightful Select, the former World Heavyweight Champion’s recent feud with Dragon Lee was meant to spin off into a WrestleMania match with Rey Mysterio, but for injuries getting in the way.
The Hall of Famer unfortunately suffered a rib injury in a match with Austin Theory on the January 26 episode of RAW, and, although he managed to compete in the Royal Rumble match, Mysterio hasn’t been able to return to the ring since. You can read more about his status here.
