Former IWGP World Champion Kota Ibushi has been absent from in-ring action since his bout with fellow former champion Kazuchika Okada in the final of the 31st G1 Climax tournament on October 21st, 2021, due to a shoulder injury. During his absence, the NJPW star has made a number of tweets airing his frustrations with the company, leading many to believe that he’s unlikely to return to New Japan even after his injury is healed.
Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has now provided an update on Ibushi’s injury status, as well as sharing an insight into when his current deal with NJPW is set to expire.
“Kota Ibushi has been in light training in the ring of late and thus far the shoulder has held up well so that’s a good sign. His New Japan contract expires at the end of January.”

As of writing, Kota Ibushi’s standing in the world of pro-wrestling seems uncertain. His comments are likely to lead to his departure from New Japan Pro Wrestling, opening up the possibility of him landing elsewhere should he still plan on competing.
