On June 25th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, AEW and NJPW are set to come together once again to present the second instalment of the Forbidden Door PPV. Last year’s inaugural joint event between the two companies was an undeniable success in terms of both ticket sales and overall fan enjoyment, however one unfortunate omission from the card was the lack of World Wonder Ring STARDOM talents, the joshi promotion also owned by Bushiroad, NJPW’s parent company.

During a recent appearance on the Battleground Podcast, AEW President Tony Khan revealed that he’d be interested in working with STARDOM in the future and noted that talks have indeed taken place.

“I am interested in working with STARDOM. It’s something that I’ve talked to New Japan about, and obviously they have that business relationship there. It’s definitely something I’d be open to, so we’ll have to keep an eye on that. But definitely some interesting things happening in the world of Joshi. We’ve brought some great Joshi wrestlers over. They have a great women’s division and have some exciting things happening there. So I would be interested to work with STARDOM in the future,”

New Japan Pro Wrestling recently introduced the IWGP Women’s Championship, a title currently held by Mercedes Moné, and thus it’s possible that the former Sasha Banks may be involved at Forbidden Door in some capacity, with Khan adding that it will be an “interesting situation” to keep an eye on.

STARDOM currently find themselves in the middle of their annual Cinderella Tournament, as well as gearing up towards their upcoming Yokohama Arena PPV on April 23rd. As always, we’ll aim to provide any updates on a potential working relationship between AEW and STARDOM as soon as we hear more.
