Rey Mysterio Expected To Be Absent From WWE For Six To Eight Weeks Following Knee Surgery

The former United States Champion is set for a spell on the sidelines.

This past Friday’s episode of SmackDown saw the LWO implode as Santos Escobar attacked Rey Mysterio on the heels of Rey’s bout with Logan Paul at Crown Jewel that saw the Lucha Libre legend lose the WWE United States Championship, a loss that Carlito had blamed on Escobar moments before the betrayal.

Earlier today, Mysterio announced on social media that he had undergone successful knee surgery in Birmingham, seemingly explaining the decision for him being written off TV. Haus of Wrestling are now reporting that Mysterio had been working with a torn meniscus for the past three months, with a timeline for his return currently expected to be within 6 to 8 weeks.

“Haus of Wrestling has learned that Mysterio has been working through a torn meniscus for about three months. The injury has slowly worsened, so he agreed to lose the WWE United States Championship to Paul and participate in the beatdown angle before heading off for his knee operation. He is expected to be out of action for around six to eight weeks while he recovers and will likely resume his feud with Escobar when he returns.”

Should everything go to plan, Mysterio is expected to be available to WWE once again for the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 40 season, with an eventual singles bout against Santos Escobar currently seeming to be the direction.

In the meantime, it’ll be interesting to see how the remaining LWO members respond to Escobar’s heel turn, with recent NXT call-up Dragon Lee also likely to side with Mysterio should he need another friend to turn to.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Rey Mysterio’s injury status as soon as we hear more, and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
