An update has emerged regarding Kenny Omega’s diverticulitis diagnosis.

On the December 13 edition of AEW Dynamite, The Golden Jets (Kenny Omega and Chris Jericho) announced their intention to go after the AEW World Tag Team Championships at World’s End. However, not even 24 hours later, it was revealed that Kenny had been taken to hospital for treatment after being diagnosed with diverticulitis, news which sent shockwaves through the wrestling world.

To provide an update on what led to Omega being taken to hospital, Dave Meltzer has written in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the Canadian’s pain was very evident backstage at his last AEW appearance, and that the timing of his hospital visit was vital. In fact, it was said that waiting much longer could’ve resulted in a blood infection, something which could have left Kenny with a 50/50 chance of survival.

“At the 12/13 show in Arlington, TX, the pain was very clear backstage and after doing his promo ended up in the hospital where he got the diagnosis. He was told when diagnosed that he was very lucky he went in because the situation could have been catastrophic, such as getting a blood infection, if he wasn’t diagnosed at the time he was, which would have something like a 50 percent chance of death.”

As for how Kenny is doing now, Meltzer adds that the 40-year-old’s condition got better as the week progressed, but still has to be patient when it comes to treatment and making a full recovery.

“Omega as the week went on was doing better but still has to be patient and let all the treatment play out until he can take the next steps to recovery.”

As of now, it’s unclear what AEW’s plans are for the Tag Team Championships in the absence of the number one contenders. We continue to wish Kenny Omega a speedy recovery and hope to see him back in the ring again soon once he is back to full health.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Kenny Omega and his condition as we hear more.
