The day after last week’s filing of a federal lawsuit against Vince McMahon alleging the sexual exploitation and trafficking of former WWE employee Janel Grant, McMahon officially resigned from his position on TKO Group Holdings’ board of directors.
Grant’s attorney, Ann Callis, said that his resignation is not enough. Independent with NewsNation’s Markie Martin on Morning In America, Callis spoke to what Grant’s lawsuit hopes to achieve.
“It’s been a long process, and she (Grant) wants to speak out for any other victims and eradicate this culture of corruption that has permeated every cell of the WWE,”
– Ann Callis
Callis said that since Grant is going up against a multibillion-dollar company and very powerful men, they wanted to lay out all the “facts” to even the playing field. In the filing, Grant provided over 300 allegations of sexual abuse, as well as highlighting the negligence of WWE knowingly letting the abuse continue. Per the filing, nobody within the company tried to intervene on Grant’s behalf.
“She was an island unto herself. She felt extremely isolated. She felt victimized. She felt that she was a prisoner.”
– Ann Callis
Callis later suggested that Grant wasn’t alone, other possible victims are starting to come forward, and that her office is beginning to investigate other possible cases against McMahon and WWE.
“My office and my inbox have had a barrage of people wanting to come forward to attest about this culture of corruption and also possible victims. We are just beginning now to wade through all this, but we’re frankly overwhelmed.”
– Ann Callis
Callis concluded by saying that though Grant wants justice, she also wants to change WWE’s culture.
“[Grant] wants justice because she wants to change the culture that is going on in the WWE. She wants to help other victims. She thinks by speaking out and coming forward first, that others will feel emboldened and encouraged to come forth.”
– Ann Callis
