GUNTHER Says Making John Cena Tap Out Might Be Worth More Than Any WWE Title

GUNTHER thinks retiring John Cena may mean more than championships in WWE.

On December 13 of last year, GUNTHER stood across the ring from John Cena in the 17-time world champion’s final match. With many fans hoping the leader of the Cenation would earn a victory to close his career, ‘The Ring General’ secured a tap out to send the legend into retirement, giving him something to dine out on for years to come. Now, GUNTHER has revealed he thinks retiring John Cena could be bigger than winning a championship.

Speaking on WWE Retrospective, GUNTHER discussed how tapping out John Cena could be bigger than winning a championship.

“People were legit pissed off. They were really pissed off. Not like, ‘We play along, we boo.’ No. People were frustrated that this is how it ended. That was the best outcome for men. Also, when you hear the reaction after the tap out, it’s just crazy. That’s the biggest achievement, too. Where it’s like the guy that always said ‘Never Give Up,’ I can make him give up. That’s maybe worth more than any title you can win. For the rest of my career, I can talk about that and that’s gonna annoy people forever.”

A section of WWE’s fanbase were of the opinion that the Austrian should use the momentum he’d built to pursue a world championship following Saturday’s Night’s Main Event, and this sentiment only intensified when GUNTHER also sent AJ Styles into retirement at the Royal Rumble. However, it appears the star himself isn’t currently prioritising the top gold in WWE.

Instead, the 38-year-old is set for a clash with Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42. After initially helping out Paul Heyman by attacking ‘The Visionary’, GUNTHER revealed on last night’s RAW that the match is about proving he’s a better wrestler than Rollins.
