Most in WWE reportedly think Brock Lesnar didn’t actually retire at WrestleMania 42.

To open the second night of WrestleMania 42, fans got off their seats to see Oba Femi take down Brock Lesnar in less than five minutes. However, after the match, viewers saw ‘The Beast’ leave his gloves and boots in the ring in what is typically the sign a wrestler gives to indicate their retirement from the ring. With many left confused as to whether Lesnar is done with wrestling, it now seems it isn’t just portions of the fanbase that are skeptical.

According to Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, most in WWE are of the belief Brock Lesnar didn’t retire at WrestleMania 42.

“Most in the company believed that was not his retirement and nobody would confirm that it was a true retirement. We were outright told to treat it as an angle including from the same person who warned us to treat the first Seth Rollins injury as an angle. Lesnar’s stuff by design is almost always kept secretive, Lesnar was very convincing and the situation came across so big that it would almost be a letdown for him to retire again. Most had expected his retirement at SummerSlam, since it is in Minneapolis this year.”

Ever since SummerSlam 2026 was announced for Minneapolis, fans have speculated over whether Lesnar’s retirement match could come at the show, with many still hoping to see ‘The Beast Incarnate’ face GUNTHER before all is said and done.

If WrestleMania 42 truly was the end for Lesnar’s career, he’ll leave as a seven-time WWE Champion and a three-time Universal Champion, while it’s worth noting the 48-year-old is also a former IWGP Heavyweight Champion.

While it’s been said that many didn’t believe the retirement, it was reported almost immediately after the show that few were in the know about what Lesnar would do after his match. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Brock Lesnar’s future as soon as we hear more.
