People in AEW are reportedly ‘pretty negative’ on bringing back Aleister Black after his WWE release.

On Friday, April 24, WWE had their latest round of departures as fans gradually learned which talent were either released or having their contract allowed to expire by the company. Among the names was Aleister Black, who was only a year into his second run with the company having returned to SmackDown on April 25, 2025. Now a free agent, some immediately wondered whether we could see him head back to Dynamite in the near future, but it appears as if a comeback to AEW is unlikely.

According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, it’s believed some in AEW are ‘pretty negative’ on the idea of Black coming back to the company.

“The idea of Aleister Black and AEW was not fondly thought out by the people I spoke with there (AEW). Now, I did not speak to Tony Khan. Andrade was mixed. I know people there that were not high on Andrade at all and others who were. But, Black, from what I gathered, pretty negative. There were even people who publicly said that. That they were negative on Black.”

Black signed with All Elite Wrestling in July 2021 having previously spent almost three years with WWE. However, in September 2022, the 40-year-old for his release from AEW, something which was denied. Having been absent from the company for two months, he returned as part of the House of Black to go after the trios championships, though many fans felt as if his departure to pursue a WWE comeback was an inevitability.

As yet, we don’t yet know what’s next for Aleister Black or his wife Zelina Vega following their WWE releases this past weekend. Of course, we wish them, and all those affected by the recent round of cuts, all the best with regard to their future.
