Major names within AEW are reportedly pushing to sign The New Day.

Earlier today, it emerged via Sean Ross Sapp and Cory Hays that The New Day had left WWE by mutual consent. The news sent shockwaves through the wrestling landscape, with many assuming Woods and Kingston would be with the company for the long haul after the success of their team. However, the pair will now prepare for life away from WWE, and interest is already high from elsewhere.

Providing an update on their departures, Fightful Select have revealed there are major names in AEW already pushing to sign The New Day.

“We’re told there were already major names pushing for Kofi and Creed within AEW, which is not much of a surprise.”

-Fightful Select

Wherever they choose to go next, Fightful note that Kofi will be unable to use ‘Kingston’ due to WWE copyright, while Woods will likely rely on the Austin Creed name he’d been using as part of UpUpDownDown.

Kofi Kingston will still be able to use the “Kofi” portion of his name, considering it’s his birth name. Xavier Woods is a name owned by WWE, but he’s worked to establish the “Austin Creed” name outside of WWE programming. “New Day” is owned by WWE and can not be used outside the company.”

Mirroring the feelings of the majority of fans, the report also touches on the shock coming from WWE talent after the news broke. It’s believed many in the company feeling that the team were ‘WWE Lifers’, although many are feeling more and more like no one falls into that category anymore.

In terms of how quickly they can sign elsewhere, Fightful clarified Creed and Kofi will have waiting periods tied to their WWE exits, despite the fact that they left via a mutual agreement. It’s presumed the length they’ll have to sit out is the standard 90 days.

Interestingly, the report closes with insight into their contract status’ with WWE prior to their decision to leave, with it believed both Woods and Kingston had signed new deals in 2025 that would’ve seen them stick with the company until 2030.

For now, what they do next remains to be seen, but many are excited to see where the former WWE Tag Team Champions land.
