Thekla Discusses Herself & GUNTHER Finding Success Coming From Austria

Thekla and GUNTHER are doing Austria proud across AEW and WWE respectively.
Since becoming ‘All Elite’ in May 2025 following her departure from World Wonder Ring Stardom, Thekla has emerged as one of All Elite Wrestling’s top stars and currently holds the AEW Women’s World Championship. Hailing from Vienna, Thekla shares her roots with WWE’s GUNTHER, with the pair helping to put Austria firmly on the professional wrestling map.
Speaking to the Daily Express in a new interview, Thekla reflected on the success that both she and GUNTHER have achieved across the wider wrestling scene as fellow Austrians.
“What are the odds that we both come from a very small country with basically no wrestling scene? What are the odds that that two people make it this far, him and WWE and me and AEW? It’s really remarkable.”

Thekla is set to defend the AEW Women’s World Championship against a trio of former champions as she takes on Hikaru Shida, Kris Statlander, and Jamie Hayter at Double or Nothing at Louis Armstrong Stadium on May 24.
Meanwhile, on top of being a former World Heavyweight Champion and making a name for himself as WWE’s resident ‘Career Killer’ after retiring Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles, GUNTHER now has his sights set on Cody Rhodes and the Undisputed WWE Championship.
