Swerve Strickland has discussed whether he wants The New Day in AEW.

Last weekend, Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods shocked both fans and talent by leaving WWE. Shortly afterwards, it was revealed the pair had decided to depart the company after being unimpressed with TKO’s offer to restructure their contracts. Now outside WWE, speculation is naturally mounting that The New Day may be next to make the jump to AEW. Now, one of their top stars has endorsed the move.

Speaking to TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Swerve Strickland revealed he wants New Day in AEW, but stressed that they should do what’s best for them.

“Of course. Absolutely. I also just want them to do what’s best for them. If they want to take like a five year hiatus, they’ve earned it. They’ve more than earned it. They know their value as well, and that’s the most important thing. I hope that’s the lesson that everybody learns in this. They know their value and they understand who they are. And they understand what they bring. And what they brought and their legacy they leave behind.”

Strickland isn’t the only one in the All Elite Wrestling locker room believed to be wanting The New Day to come into the company, with reports soon emerging that ‘major AEW talent’ were pushing for the promotion to sign Kofi and Creed imminently after their departure. You can read more about that here.

Elsewhere in the interview, Strickland placed Kingston among wrestling’s greatest ever performers. You can read more about that here.

For now, though, little is known about what will come next for the former WWE Tag Team Champions. It was clarified after their exit that they’ll have to wait the usual 90 days before making their next move, with many fans wondering whether they could become ‘All Elite’ this summer.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods leaving WWE as soon as we hear more.
