Kay Lee Ray reveals why she’s already able to take bookings outside WWE.

On April 24, it emerged that Kay Lee Ray, then known as Alba Fyre, was among that day’s WWE departures. This ended a five-year stay under the company’s banner, spanning NXT, NXT UK, and the main roster. The Scot was a standout of the British scene prior to inking a deal with the world’s biggest promotion, and, following her exit, the star has already made her mark on the independents. Now, we know more on how she’s able to make a comeback to other companies so quickly.

Speaking with the Daily Star, Kay Lee Ray revealed her WWE contract expired rather than being released by the company.

“My contract was up, and I knew it was coming up. I had the decision of whether I wanted to stay or not. I know some other people got fired and they have the 90 days clause, but because mines was just a contract ending, that means I didn’t have the 90 days and I was able to come and do this [Pro Wrestling EVE]. And do it as kind of a surprise but I know it wasn’t really a surprise. But yeah, really glad that it worked out this way.”

The star also touched on her time in WWE, reflecting positively on having fun with her friends.

“I had fun. Honestly, from start to end. I got the job that I wanted to and I had fun while I was doing it with my friends. And now I get to come back [to the indies] and almost start again. Yeah, I had fun.”

As she mentions, Kay Lee Ray made a shock appearance at this past weekend’s Pro Wrestling EVE in what was her first match since departing WWE. Coming in as the surprise opponent of Molly Spartan, the former EVE Champion wasted little time in returning to a promotion she helped to make her name in. Plus, she’s set to return next month when she battles Rhio in a number one contender’s match for the EVE International Championship.

Up next, the former NXT UK Women’s Champion will continue her return to the British independents when she makes her RevPro debut on July 5.
