Big E Confirms The New Day Aren’t Retired, Excited For Their Futures

Big E is looking forward to seeing what’s next for The New Day after leaving WWE.

On May 2, 2026, it was reported that Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods had mutually agreed to part ways with WWE. Alongside Big E prior to his removal from the group in December 2024, Kingston and Woods enjoyed an incredibly successful run as The New Day, finding championship success both as a tag team and in singles competition.

Big E recently appeared on The A2theK Wrestling Show, where he discussed Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods’ WWE departures. Big E said he does not believe either man is retired and added that he is excited to see what the future holds for the former New Day members.

“It is a big period of change for those two, for sure. I think they both assumed that their entire wrestling careers would be in WWE. Woods started in TNA and Kofi was on the indies for a little bit, but I think they both thought they’d retire in WWE. But there’s new ownership, things change, that’s the nature of the business. And it’s also really not a forever job, it’s not a job you’re going to do forever and ever. I don’t think those guys are retired. I don’t think they’re gonna put their boots away and be done, so I’m excited to see whatever is next. We communicate a lot. I try not to pry. I let them tell me what they want to tell me.”

In addition to holding the record for the most WWE-branded tag team championship reigns at 13, both Kofi Kingston and Big E captured the WWE Championship during their time in The New Day, while Xavier Woods’ greatest singles achievement came with his victory in the 2021 King of the Ring tournament.

Following their WWE departures, speculation quickly began to build regarding the possibility of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods making the move to All Elite Wrestling, with sources within AEW reportedly optimistic about the prospect of the pair eventually stepping foot inside an AEW ring. You can read more about that here.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on the future of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods as soon as we hear more.
