CM Punk has reportedly pushed to return on July 6’s WWE RAW.

Given that CM Punk hasn’t appeared on WWE TV since the night after WrestleMania 42, speculation has run wild about his status with the company. While there’s been no official word on his future, Dave Meltzer wrote in the June 15 Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the ‘Second City Saint’ was set to return on the SmackDown brand once he re-enters the fold. However, it now appears Punk himself has been pushing to appear on the red brand first.

Providing an update, Dave Meltzer wrote in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, stating CM Punk has been pushing to return on July 6th when RAW comes to Chicago.

“Even though CM Punk is earmarked for Smackdown, he was pushing very hard for his return to be on the 7/6 RAW show because it’s in Chicago. His departure was basically to get him ready for moving to Smackdown and eventually a program with Cody Rhodes, but to say there are no issues at all, that wouldn’t be correct. It’s not as bad as sone have made it out to be, but it’s not like there aren’t any issues at all.

-Dave Meltzer

Interestingly, Meltzer notes that suggestions that Punk and WWE haven’t had any issues during his absence aren’t correct, although it’s indicated that any tension wasn’t as severe as what was rumoured. Initial speculation claimed Punk wanted out of his contract, with it also said he was unhappy with the creative direction of AJ Lee. You can catch up on the reported rumour killers here.

For now, CM Punk’s exact return date remains unclear, although Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes did offer a title shot to the Chicago-born star before his absence began, giving Punk a path to the gold should he make the blue brand his new home.

As always, we’ll aim to provide any further updates on plans for CM Punk’s WWE return as soon as we hear more.
