El Hijo del Vikingo will be out of action for nine months after suffering an ACL injury.

The June 30 edition of WWE NXT was originally set to feature El Hijo del Vikingo defending the AAA Latin American Championship against EK Prosper. However, Vikingo was later pulled from the match, with reports subsequently revealing that he had suffered a left knee injury while going through the planned bout.

According to Dave Meltzer in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, El Hijo del Vikingo is expected to be sidelined for approximately nine months after undergoing surgery on July 7 to repair a torn ACL.

“Right now the expectation of El Hijo del Vikingo, who underwent surgery for a torn ACL on 7/7, is that he will be out of action for about nine months.”

Last week’s episode of AAA on FOX saw Dorian Roldán attempt to award the AAA Latin American Championship to Omos, claiming he is suing Rey Mysterio over Vikingo’s injury after Mysterio allegedly sent him to NXT and SmackDown.

Mysterio then demanded that Omos return the title or face suspension, prompting the giant to reluctantly comply. AAA’s General Manager subsequently declared the championship vacant, while Damian Priest later stated in a video message that he wants to become the next AAA Latin American Champion.

Despite being sidelined with the aforementioned knee injury, Vikingo still challenged Rey Fenix for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship on the July 3 edition of Friday Night SmackDown, as the episode had been taped before he sustained the injury.
