New AEW Grand Slam: Mexico Art Places Kenny Omega Center Stage

AEW Grand Slam

Kenny Omega is advertised for AEW Grand Slam: Mexico on August 5.

AEW’s official graphic for the upcoming Grand Slam: Mexico event previously featured MJF, who was AEW World Champion when the return to Arena México was announced. Following Kenny Omega’s title victory, the promotion has since updated the graphic to feature the current champion prominently. With Grand Slam: Mexico taking place just 10 days after AEW Redemption and 25 days before AEW All In: London, attention is now turning towards what the event’s match card could look like.

Tony Khan has traditionally looked to make Grand Slam events feel like major occasions, using them as significant television specials. Last year’s edition at Arena México sold out and featured several notable matches, including MJF facing Mistico, who is also featured in the artwork for the upcoming event.

A popular belief among fans is that the main event of Grand Slam: Mexico could see Kenny Omega defend the AEW World Championship against Andrade El Idolo. Andrade has made no secret of his desire to challenge for the world title, although he has yet to receive an opportunity during his second run with the company.

Andrade is currently scheduled to face National Champion Mark Davis at AEW Redemption, meaning he could potentially enter the event with championship gold of his own.

The artwork also provides further clues about potential featured talent, with Bandido, Mascara Dorada, and Thunder Rosa all expected to play a role at Grand Slam: Mexico.
