WWE Reportedly Planning To Continue Using AI Despite Fan Backlash

WWE plans on expanding its usage of artificial intelligence.

Longtime WWE fans will recall several instances this year in which the company used AI-generated images and even entire video packages to help tell a story. Those segments often sparked backlash, with many fans viewing the use of AI as a cost-cutting measure at a time when TKO and WWE have continued to report record profits.

Despite the ongoing backlash, WRKD Wrestling reports that WWE plans to increase its use of AI moving forward, both on-screen and behind-the-scenes.

“While WWE is well aware of the negative online reaction to its use of AI in match graphics, promotional posters, and other materials, the company plans to continue increasing its use of AI-generated content both on and off screen over the coming months.”

Regarding the behind-the-scenes use of artificial intelligence, the report is likely referring to WWE’s use of AI in its creative process, something TKO President and COO Mark Shapiro described as a “major priority” earlier this year.

WWE’s use of AI has drawn criticism due to apparent flaws in some of its projects. One notable example was a WrestleMania promotional poster that many fans believed to be AI-generated, with criticism focusing on the unnatural appearance of several wrestlers and the unrealistic poker-themed setting, which many argued lacked convincing detail.

Another widely discussed example of WWE’s AI use came during Dominik Mysterio’s reign as AAA Mega Champion, when an AI-generated video package mistakenly depicted him holding the AEW World Championship instead. The error prompted widespread criticism online and highlighted the potential for similar mistakes if AI-generated content is not subject to sufficient oversight.
